Entry for October 1, 2007
As of the 1st of October we have had 1173 bluebird fledgling reported for Pittsylvania County. This is our first year to send in a report to the Virginia Bluebird Society. They are impressed with our numbers, but I know this is only a sampling of the real numbers of baby blues from our county. I plan to close out the report in a couple of weeks. You may call me at 434-822-0930 or e-mail me your results. I need the number of boxes you have, the nest attempts, egg count , baby count and the number fledged. Other birds that may have nested in your boxes can also be reported. Chickadees, tree swallows, house wrens, titmice or nuthatches are some that have been reported so far. Don't let your babies be left out of the annual count.
Entry for September 10, 2007
On September 8th, members of the Virginia Bluebird Society in theDanville/Pittsylvania County area gathered at Raywood Landscape to turn in the number of bluebirds that fledged between April and September in the Dan River region - over 600 babies so far! We still have some members who will be turning in their counts in the coming days. If you have been tracking bluebird numbers, please turn in your final individual trail summary by September 15th. I can hardly wait to see the final number!
